American dogs

Dogs in this category are united by one particular fact — they were developed in America. However, most of them are popular all around the world, especially American Bulldogs; American Staffordshire Terriers; American Pit Bull Terriers and American Cocker Spaniels.

Despite the fact that there are not that many American breeds, Americans are avid dog owners. It historically turned out such way that they worked more on dogs brought from Europe and Canada. That is why they paid less attention to local pets. American Kennel Club (AKC) officially recognizes 192 breeds. It divides them into 7 categories:
  1. Hound.
  2. Working.
  3. Terrier.
  4. Toy.
  5. Sporting.
  6. Non-Sporting.
  7. Herding.

They also have a backup registry. Puppies representing unregistered breeds are added there. That is done with a purpose of collecting the sufficient gene pool and accepting the breeds.
If you don't know which breed to choose — take the test on the selection of the breed, and carefully read its description in the Bookipet catalog.
